I have seen The Threepenny Opera three times.
The first time was Roundabout's production in 2006, which I found sadly disappointing. However, Cyndi Lauper rocked.
The second Threepenny Opera experience I had was in Philadelphia. The Bread and Puppet Theatre Company did a 90 minute version with cardboard cutout puppets.
The third Threepenny Opera was by far the most successful performance in my opinion. It was Albright College's production directed by the brilliant Jeff Lentz. Lentz himself played the piano onstage during the show. I believe that Brecht would have been proud of how much "the wires" showed.
Tomorrow night, I am so excited for my fourth Threepenny experience. I am going to see Robert Wilson's Threepenny Opera at BAM! I've never seen one of Wilson's pieces live; I cannot wait. And this will be the first Threepenny I will see in German! Auf Wiedersehen!
